Ormiston Sudbury Academy principal, Mrs Caroline Wilson welcomed the MP to look around the academy on Friday morning with Mr Cartlidge impressed with work being done.
Mr Cartlidge was shown around the school in his first visit as MP by newly elected head boy Darrell Barnard-Jones, having previously visited to watch performances.
Mrs Wilson said the new MP was very interested in what the school was doing, in particular preparing students for the world of work after a successful journey through the academy.
“I am keen to work with him to herald Sudbury and our work to becoming outstanding [Ofsted rating],” she said
“We will visit the House of Commons and he will come in to talk with our Sixth Form.
“He is aware of the need for changes in infrastructure in the area in particular the roads and rail network and will support any bid for improvements to our site.”
Mrs Wilson added: “It has been a pleasure to welcome someone to the academy who shares my vision for outstanding education for all and recognises the positive journey we are on and what a difference we have made for young people in Sudbury.”
Mr Cartlidge said: “Ormiston Academy Sudbury has clearly come on leaps and bounds in recent years, achieving a ‘good’ Ofsted last June.
“It was a pleasure to witness this progress at first hand when I visited the school. I also felt from meeting principal Caroline Wilson and her team that staff remain strongly committed to further improvement.”
