An event to mark the official opening of the facility at Woodhall Community Primary School in Sudbury took place yesterday afternoon.
The classroom, which also includes a slide, a water pump and a bandstand type structure, will be used by around 90 nursery and reception children.
The unveiling saw the completion of the project which was started by headteacher Lesley Farrow, who died in July after falling from her horse.
Mrs Farrow, 47, from Bradfield Combust, was responsible for a similar project at Clements Primary School in Haverhill.
Helen Arbon, acting headteacher at Woodhall Primary, said a plaque dedicated to Mrs Farrow had been erected in the new outdoor classroom, which she described as a “celebration of her achievement and her vision”.
She said: “Our early years foundation stage outside classroom was planned by our headteacher Lesley Farrow who was incredibly passionate about children learning outside the confines of the classroom.
“Although she didn’t live to see it completed, we wanted to celebrate her achievements.”
Mrs Farrow’s husband, mother and sister-in-law attended the official opening along with Sudbury Mayor Jack Owen and South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge.
Mrs Arbon added: “The school council was also represented and had a role in choosing what they thought the younger children would like to play with and explore. When the reception children came out, we saw exactly how well the area will be used to create excitement, awe and wonder.”
As part of the revamp, the school also has brand new playground equipment that will be used by all of the pupils.
