A Suffolk MP has landed a new role on the Government front benches.
James Cartlidge, the Member of Parliament for South Suffolk, has been appointed a Minister of State within the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
His specific role is the Minister for Defence Procurement, whose main responsibilities will include complex weapons, nuclear enterprise and shipbuilding programmes.
He will also be in charge of the defence and security industrial strategy, defence industry relations, infrastructure organisation, defence estate optimisation, and public sector land release.
Previously, Mr Cartlidge served on the front benches as the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, for a six-month spell which started in October.
The Conservative MP, who has represented South Suffolk since 2015, said: “I’m honoured to have been appointed Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence.
“I’m looking forward to working with Secretary of State Ben Wallace and his team to deliver for the brilliant men and women who serve in our armed forces.”
